About Me
Masters of Temple Art & Architecture
Namaste! I am a passionate and experienced temple sculptor and architect, with over 28 years of expertise in traditional Indian temple art, architecture, and sculpture. In 1991-1992, I began my formal training at the prestigious college in Mahabalipuram, renowned as the only institution in India at that time offering comprehensive education in temple architecture, wood carving, stone carving, and traditional temple planning. Unlike other colleges that primarily focus on drawing, painting, or clay modeling, Mahabalipuram provided an immersive environment for mastering all aspects of sacred temple craftsmanship.Throughout my career, I have contributed to the construction, restoration, and embellishment of numerous temples and mandapams across India. My work spans a wide range of projects, including:
- Large-scale sculptures and statues ranging from 2 feet to 17 feet in height
- Temple pillars, mandapams, and intricate architectural elements
- Iconic works at landmarks such as the Aavadi Airport (including a 6-foot elephant statue and 10 pillars)
- Extensive contributions to temples including Shiva Vishnu, Amman, Ayyappan, and Perumal temples
- Long-term restoration and chiseling work at the Kanchipuram Kamakshi Amman Temple, performed primarily at night to accommodate visiting devotees
- Specialized sculptures such as the Mahameharu statue in stone, and unique works for Jeeva Samadhis in Tiruvannamalai and Aavadiyar shrines
- Renovation and alteration work at the Ratnagiri Murugan Temple
My association with Vasumathi Supply Company has provided me with opportunities to work on both new constructions and the restoration of historical temples, breathing new life into sacred spaces while honoring their original artistry. My dedication to the craft is reflected not only in the scale and detail of my work but also in my commitment to preserving and advancing the rich tradition of Indian temple architecture and sculpture. If you would like to know more about my work or discuss a project, please feel free to contact me.
